At Its Best is a buyers guide and recipe book combined. We all know that fresh is best but with the wide range of ingredients that are now available out of season it is easy for us to lose touch with when particular vegetables ard fruit are actually at their best. In this delectable collection, Margaret Brooker, author of New Zealand Food Lovers guide, presents a guide to selecting, buying and eating seasonal produce at its prime, accompanied by achievable recipes, which highlight the special qualities of these central ingredients.

At its best is a buyers guide and recipe book combined. There are clear guidelines for buying at its best: what to look for, what to avoid and how best to store it. Then, having selected perfect produce, making the most of it through an inspiring collection of recipes. Some are classic dishes, often pared down to the essentials, and others are Margaret Brookers own creations. What they have in common is a celebration of the produce. They enhance the special qualities of the produce without overwhelming it. The 116 recipes include such delights as Fennel and Lemon Roast Chicken, Spinach and Pear Salad, Glazed Quince Slices, Chocolate and Cherry Roulade, Courgette Ribbons in Lemon Vinaigrette, Kumara and Salmon Cakes, Rhubarb and Ginger Cake – Complemented by full colour photography by Steven La Plante.
