Her research interests focus on all aspects of carbohydrates–diet and diabetes, the glycemic index of foods, insulin resistance, lactose intolerance and oligosaccharides in infant nutrition. She holds a special interest in evolutionary nutrition and the diet of Australian Aborigines. She has published 16 books and 150 journal articles. Her books about the glycemic index, The New Glucose Revolution, are international best–sellers with more than 2 million in sales since 1996. The most recent title in the series, The Low GI Diet, was published in September 2004.Professor Nadir R. Farid began his academic career at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. He became Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology in 1984 and of Cell Sciences in 1989. He is an internationally recognised investigative and clinical endocrinologist who has trained many scientists, internists and endocrinologists, and described or redefined a number of clinical syndromes. His specialist interests are the genetics of endocrine disorders and the molecular basis of thyroid cancer. He has edited five books and published in excess of 450 scientific papers, reviews and chapters. He is founder and CEO of Osancor Biotech Inc and consultant at 119 Harley Street and the Wellington Hospital, both in London, England. Kate Marsh is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Diabetes Educator, with a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Sydney (1995) and a Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management from the University of Technology, Sydney (1997). She has worked in private practice for seven years, combining this for the first three years with her position as dietitian and diabetes educator at Hornsby Ku–ring–gai Hospital, and now works full time in private practice. Kate has a particular interest in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), having worked with hundreds of women with this condition over the past few years. She is currently undertaking her PhD at the University of Sydney looking at the benefits of a low GI diet in the management of insulin resistance in women with PCOS.
